Jailed: Akeel Hussain must serve at least 19 years for the murder of Kirsty Wright
The parents of a young mum murdered by her partner while she was pregnant with his child have paid tribute to their beautiful and caring’ loved one.
Twenty-one year-old Kirsty Wright’s mum and dad have spoken of their grief after their daughter’s killer, Akeel Hussain, was jailed for life.
Kirsty was 13 weeks pregnant with Hussain’s child, her second, when he savagely stabbed her 60 times with a kitchen knife at her Redditch home on March 15.
She died the following day at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Birmingham Mail reports.
Hussain, 29, of Pembroke Croft, Hall Green, was sentenced to at least 19 years in prison at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.
He changed his plea to guilty as the prosecution case came to an end.
The court heard that Kirsty had been worried about Hussain’s drug-taking before he murdered her.
He had started taking cannabis but had escalated to using cocaine.
Kirsty’s mum and dad also told how they want to give her two year-old son the best chances in life.
They said: “We are truly devastated by the loss of Kirsty. Her death is something that we will never come to terms with, it has ripped our family apart.
Kirsty was so excited about becoming a mother for the second time and she was a wonderful and devoted mother to her two-year-old son.
“Mother and son adored each other, and were inseparable.
“We will do our best to ensure he can go on to live a happy, normal childhood and when he is old enough to understand the tragic way his mother died, we will support him.”
Detective Inspector Leighton Harding, of North Worcestershire CID, said: “I hope the guilty plea and sentencing will bring some comfort to Kirsty’s family and friends.
“The conclusion of the court case will hopefully now bring them some kind of closure and the opportunity to move forward.
I would like to pay tribute to Kirsty’s family for the dignified manner they have maintained throughout the investigation.
I would like to thank the witnesses who supported the investigation and prosecution and also the investigation team for their diligence, professionalism, and determination in their search for justice !!!
