NEWS --30-year-old transient sought in kidnapping of 10-year-old Northridge girl

A 30-year-old transient with ties to the North Hollywood area is being sought as the sole suspect in connection with Wednesday's kidnapping of a 10-year-old Northridge girl from her home.
“We're here to announce a suspect in this case, somebody that we're seeking the public's help to find,” LAPD Chief of Detectives Kirk Albanese said Saturday. “What's really important is that if anyone sees this individual to call 9-1-1.”
The suspect, Tobias Dustin Summers, 30, is a parolee with prior convictions, including possession of explosives, dating back to 2001, when he turned 18 years old, according to police and court records.
Though police previously discussed a possible second suspect, Albanese said that “there is no other suspect in this crime.”
The girl was missing for more than 12 hours, however police have not said whether she was the victim of a sexual assault.
Police said the girl's mother woke to a noise about 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, checked on her daughter and discovered her missing. A child living nearby told his mother he heard a door slam about that time.
The girl later told police she was abducted by two men, put in

several vehicles and taken to a vacant home and a warehouse. She said they dropped her off at Kaiser Permanente's Woodland Hills Medical Center, and she was spotted shortly before 3 p.m. wandering shoeless around a Woodland Hills strip mall.
She had “facial bruising and lacerations,” police said. After being evaluated at a hospital, she went home to her family.
She described one of her abductors as a white man about 18 and didn't have a description of the other.
Police said they didn't know the motivation for the crime.
Summers was convicted in 2009 of petty theft with prior convictions and battery, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. The battery conviction also involved an allegation of child annoyance, according to the LAPD.
He was convicted of grand theft in 2006 and petty theft with prior convictions in 2005, records show.
Summers also was convicted of grand theft in 2003.
In 2002, Summers was convicted of possessing explosives and receiving stolen property.
Summers' earliest listed criminal conviction was for driving without a license in 2001.
He also has been arrested on suspicion of crimes including kidnapping, robbery and auto theft, Albanese said.
“He is not a registered sex offender that we are aware of,” Albanese said.
According to Los Angeles County booking records, Summers was arrested Jan. 10 on suspicion of a felony by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department North Hollywood Division.
His parole was violated and he served nine days in jail before his release on Jan. 19, booking records show. Further details on the January arrest were not available.
Police described Summers as white, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He has short-cropped blond hair and blue eyes, and has a tattoo.
As about 40 detectives continued investigating the case, “We have no information that the family knew this individual,” Albanese said.“We believe he removed the girl from her house.”
The FBI has been assisting the LAPD in the investigation, and is ready to offer its services if needed.
“Should he have left the state, we have the resources to take him into custody,” said Bill Lewis, assistant director of the FBI in Los Angeles.
The Daily News identified the girl in previous reports because police released her name when she was missing. But her name is not being reprinted at the request of police and her parents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division tip line at 213-486-6890.
