NEWS -- Germany, IMF used atomic bomb to shoot pigeon: Cyprus

A Cypriot official at Ministry of Finance has likened his country’s treatment by Germany and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) ‘to the shooting of a pigeon with an atomic bomb', saying they had ruined a functioning economic system.

Permanent secretary of the ministry, Christos Patsalides, said the statement, as he testified on Friday in front of a government appointed judicial inquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the country's financial meltdown.

Patsalides, who took part in the recent bailout negotiations between Cyprus and the European Union and IMF said that an “unrelenting” team of technocrats had given a severe fiscal punishment to the cash-starved island.

"With the imposition of Germany and the IMF ... they shot a pigeon with an atomic bomb," said Patsalides.
The commission asked the secretary if the bailout requirement to impose losses on depositors were within their individual rights.

Pastsalides answered: "When you are dealing with forces of occupation, they don't talk about human rights."

Many Cypriot and foreign depositors saw their savings disappear, when authorities imposed up to 60 percent one-time loss on accounts holding over 100,000 euros in two of Cyprus's banks - Popular and Bank of Cyprus.

The one-time loss was a requirement from the EU and the IMF to receive a 10-billion-euros bailout.

According to analysts the island, which had modeled itself as an offshore financial services center, is now facing a grim future, as its reputation has been hurt and its economy deep in recession.

On April 12, the eurozone approved the bailout deal and European officials have said Nicosia should receive the first bailout money in early May. A Cypriot woman protests against the EU bailout deal in Nicosia on March 18, 2013.

NEWS -- Boston locked down as police search for 2nd bombing suspect

The US city of Boston has been locked down as a massive manhunt for the second Boston Marathon bombing suspect, identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, continues.

The US police identified the surviving bombing suspect as of Russian origin, asking people to remain indoors after describing Dzhokhar as armed and dangerous.

Local media reports said on Friday that the 19-year-old man lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to the suspects' uncle, both men have lived in US for about a decade.

The other suspect, who was killed in a shootout with police, is said to be Dzhokhar’s brother. The 26-year-old man was identified as Tamerlan and died in a shootout in Watertown.

The shootout took place when police were looking for the bombing suspects and the assailant who killed a police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Two bombings in Boston on Monday left three people dead and more than 170 injured.

Police believe there is a link between the blasts at the Marathon and the shooting incident on the MIT campus.

The United States has experienced several mass killings over the past six months including an incident on December 14, 2012, when a 20-year-old man, identified as Adam Lanza, killed twenty children and six adults before pointing the gun at himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
US police search for the remaining suspect of Boston Marathon bombings on Friday, April 19, 2013, in Watertown, Mass.

NEWS -- Eight killed, dozens injured in attacks targeting Iraqi mosques

At least eight people have been killed and dozens more injured in two separate attacks targeting mosques north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

According to Iraqi police, seven people were killed after mortars hit a mosque in the town of Khalis, 80 kilometers north of Baghdad, as worshippers were leavening the mosque following the Friday Prayers.

The attack also left 14 people injured and destroyed part of the mosque.

A bomb also exploded inside a mosque in Kirkuk, killing one person and injuring 12 others.

The attacks come a day before Iraq’s provincial elections and a day after at least 27 people were killed in a bomb attack on a cafe in the Iraqi capital.

Violence has increased in Iraq this week in the run-up to the elections, despite heightened security.

A total of 14 election candidates have been already murdered.

Iraq's provincial elections are due to be held in 12 of the country's 18 provinces and soldiers and policemen cast their ballots for the elections on Saturday, a week ahead of the main vote.

More than 8,000 candidates have registered to compete for the 378 seats up for grab and an estimated 16.2 million Iraqis are eligible to vote.

NEWS -- Germany may keep forces in Afghanistan beyond 2014

German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere (L) talks with German soldiers in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul, March 14, 2012.
Germany has offered to keep nearly 800 of its troops in Afghanistan, following the planned withdrawal of US-led forces from the Asian country by the end of 2014.

On Thursday, German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere announced that his country had proposed to deploy between roughly 600 and 800 of its forces in Afghanistan for a two-year period beginning from 2015.

Maiziere went on to say that after the two-year mandate, Germany would be ready to station between 200 to 300 forces in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul to provide training and logistic support to the Afghan army.

“This offer is a declaration of intent by the federal government. Germany is taking an early and timely position on this important question,” Maiziere stated.

The offer has yet to be approved by the UN Security Council and the Afghan government.

With around 4,300 forces mostly stationed in the northern provinces of Kunduz, Balkh and Badakhshan, Germany ranks third after the United States and Britain in terms of the number of troops in Afghanistan.

In late January, Germany’s parliament extended the presence of German military forces in Afghanistan up until the end of 2014.

While Germany’s military mission in Afghanistan is widely unpopular among the German public, most of the German political factions lend support to the plan.

German soldiers have been in Afghanistan since 2001, when US-led forces invaded the country. The German army also sent its first Tiger attack helicopters to the war-ravaged country in December 2012.

NEWS -- China says Japan provokes, escalates tensions over disputed islands

A Japanese F-2 fighter jet (file photo)
China has accused Japan of heightening tensions in the East China Sea by its increased use of fighter jets to patrol the disputed chain of islands that are claimed by both Beijing and Tokyo.

“We all know Japan has continuously provoked and escalated tensions over the Diaoyus,” said China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Thursday, referring to the disputed islands, which are known as Senkaku in Japan.

On Wednesday, Japan’s Defense Ministry said it had sent fighter jets to the disputed areas - in response to flights by Chinese aircraft - 306 times during the 12 months through March 2013.

China has increased patrols around the chain of islands, which are under the control of Japan but claimed by China and Taiwan. However, there has been only one report of violation of the Japanese airspace by a Chinese plane.

The Chinese spokeswoman also said Beijing was firm in its claim to the islands, but that it wanted to resolve the issue through negotiation.

“What Japan needs to do is not send more planes, but show sincerity and action and talk with China,” Hua Chunying stated.

Japan and China have long been competing over the sovereignty of the uninhabited islands, which are located near a crucial shipping lane and would give the owner exclusive oil, mineral and fishing rights in the surrounding waters.

On September 11, 2012, Tokyo signed a deal to buy three of the islands from their private Japanese owner in line with plans to nationalize the archipelago.

NEWS --N/Korea not ready for all-out war with US-backed South: Seoul

South Korea has downplayed the North’s stepped-up war rhetoric, saying its nuclear neighbor is not ready for an all-out war with the US-backed South.

“To wage an all-out war, they need huge amount of military supplies as well as military force and armament to carry on,” South Korea's Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok said at a news briefing on Friday.

Regarding various aspects, “they will surely be defeated if they conduct an all-out war against the combined military forces of the United States and South Korea,” he stated.

Meanwhile, top South Korean officials have met with Japanese and Chinese ambassadors to discuss ways of restoring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Prior to this, the North had demanded an immediate halt to the US-South Korean military drills in the region and the withdrawal of UN sanctions against the country, demands dismissed by both Seoul and Washington.

The refusal prompted Pyongyang to give South Korea an "ultimatum" to end its hostile policies and warned that North Korea would not give any advance notice before attacking the South.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula heightened last month after the US deployed its nuclear-capable B-52s and B-2 stealth bombers to the region as part of its joint war game with the South.

Pyongyang stepped up its war rhetoric in response to the “provocative” move, and threatened to launch a preemptive nuclear strike against the US and its regional allies.

North Korea has also said its military should be prepared to attack “all US military bases in the Asia-Pacific region, including the US mainland, Hawaii, and Guam,” in addition to South Korea.

On April 12, South Korea raised doubts over its neighbor's military nuclear capability, saying it was unlikely that North Korea had managed to make a small, light warhead that could be mounted on a missile.

NEWS -- Bomb Plot: Four Jailed For Planning TA Attack

L-R Mohammed Sharfaraz Ahmed, Syed Farham Hussain, Zahid Iqbal and Umar Arshad
Four men have been sentenced for their part in a plot to detonate a bomb at a Territorial Army (TA) base.
Two of them, Zahid Iqbal, 31, and Mohammed Sharfaraz Ahmed, 25, who wanted to guide a bomb mounted onto a remote-controlled toy car into the base, have been sentenced to life in prison.
Security services heard the pair discussing the plot on the telephone between January, 2011 and April, 2012.
Passing sentence, Mr Justice Wilkie QC said the pair posed "a significant risk of serious harm to the public".
He imposed a custodial sentence of least 11 years and three months, with a five-year extension period subject to licence.
Umar Arshad, 24, and Syed Farhan Hussain, 22, were jailed for six years and nine months and five years and three months respectively for their roles in preparing a terrorist attack.
Security services had heard the four men discussing methods, materials and targets for a terrorist attack, the court heard.
Iqbal and Ahmed talked about making an improvised explosive device (IED) based on instructions in online al Qaeda manual "How to make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom - by the al Qaeda chef", the court was told.
Covert recordings of the pair heard Iqbal suggesting attaching the bomb to a remote controlled toy car and sending it under the gap of an entrance gate at a TA centre in Luton.
Iqbal was recorded telling Ahmed: "I was looking and drove past like the TA centre, Marsh Road. At the bottom of their gate there's quite a big gap.
"If you had a little toy car, it drives underneath one of their vehicles or something."
The men were arrested following a series of raids at their homes in April last year after a joint operation by the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command and the British Security Service (BSS).
The court heard that Iqba  acted as a facilitator for people who wanted to travel for "extremist purposes" and had helped Ahmed travel to Pakistan in March, 2011 for military training.
Mr Wilkie said a further 13 counts relating to the possession of information contrary to the Terrorism Act 2000 should be left on the file.
Addressing Iqbal and Ahmed, Mr Wilkie said: "In each of their cases, their persistent commitment to terrorist activity, in a number of different ways, over a significant period of time and, in each case, their willingness to take practical steps to obtain terrorist training abroad, marks them as particularly dangerous."

NEWS --

Cassie Fearnley
James AldousHer humiliation was compounded as her ex-boyfriend claims he was not responsible for some of the websites the pictures can be viewed on - so she is unable to have them removed.
Aldous was given an 18 week suspended prison sentence at Colchester Magistrates' Court yesterday after admitting harassment at an earlier hearing.
Guilty: James Aldous, 22, was given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work
The court heard he began a relationship with Miss Fearnley in 2008 and the couple have a two-year-old daughter together.
They split up last October but carried on living together for a month for the sake of their child but Aldous moved out after a series of rows.
The chef stood in the dock wearing a white shirt with grey collar and grey trousers and was shaking his head as sections of the evidence was heard.
Philip Pearson, prosecuting, said: 'Nobody should post photographs of another person - it's grossly offensive. This was outrageous behaviour.
'After they split, Miss Fearnley noticed several items had been moved and was wondering why this was happening.
'One night towards the end of November she fell asleep on the sofa in her sitting room and woke up at 4am to the sound of the front door being closed.
'She looked out of the window and could see the defendant getting into his car and driving away. She phoned him straight away and he confessed he had been in the house and had the key to the property.'
It was in February that Miss Fearnley discovered that Aldous had been posting her images online.
Mr Pearson added: 'She also found other sites with the images on and became shocked and concerned.
'Aldous was angry and wanted to get back at her for having a new partner and he chose a grossly offensive way to do so.'
Miss Fearnley confronted her former partner and he confessed to what he had done.
The chef, who has no previous convictions, was arrested and admitted to officers that he had posted the images of Miss Fearnley on two websites.
He admitted feeling 'angry and wanted to get back at her for having a new partner.'
Sections of Miss Fearnley's police statement were read to the court in which she admitted feeling 'humiliated'.
Anna Perera, mitigating, said Aldous claimed he had only posted the pictures on two websites.
She said: 'He did feel angry and posted the photographs she had shown to him previously. As soon as she found out, he took them down immediately.
'He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour and recognises it was an appalling thing to do. He is a responsible and caring father.'
Sentencing, Martin Stutchfield chairman of the bench, slammed Aldous for his depraved actions.
He said: 'We have considered this in quite some detail. It was a particularly heinous crime and the principal is a disgraceful one. We do believe it passes the custody threshold. However, we are going to suspend the sentence.'
Aldous was also ordered to complete 150 hours unpaid work in the community and told to pay £105 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
The court was told that it would be very hard to remove pictures of Miss Fearnley from the internet completely.
The young woman said she had been left feeling by the embarrassment of what happened.
The student said: 'It has been really traumatic for me - there have been days when I have not felt up to going into college because of the shame.
'I have had the police in and out of my house and of course they have been viewing the pictures which is not very nice thing to have to go through.
'It was a massive betrayal of trust - perhaps he was just jealous but for him to post the pictures of me online was so hurtful. When I found out what had happened, I confronted him about it.
'He told me he had a problem and needed to seek professional help for it.Guilty: James Aldous, 22, was given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid workA jilted lover sneaked into his ex-girlfriends' home and downloaded intimate pictures of her before posting them on the internet in a revenge plot.
James Aldous, 22, hatched his 'outrageous and humiliating' scheme because he was upset that Cassie Fearnley had got a new boyfriend.
He let himself into Miss Fearnley's home in the early hours of the morning, logged onto her laptop and took copies of 20 pictures of his former lover in her underwear and posing topless.

NEWS ---Boston 'bombers' are brothers from CHECHNYA: One is killed in shoot-out, second still on loose after running gun battle that left cop dead as desperate men hurled more bombs at police cars

One of the Boston bombing suspects is dead and the second is on the loose and said to be 'armed and dangerous' after a dramatic shootout in the suburbs of the city.
In the last few minutes, SWAT teams have surrounded a house in Watertown on Friday morning following a massive rush of police vehicles through the area.

During the pursuit, one suspect was critically injured and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. In Watertown, witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and explosions at 1am. Dozens of police officers and FBI agents were in the neighborhood and a helicopter circled overhead. 'It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off,' a local resident told the Boston Globe. 'I looked out the window, and it was like nothing I’ve ever seen – blue light after blue light after blue light. '

WATERTOWN 1:30am: The Cambridge bomb squad arrive in Watertown.

CURRENT: An extensive manhunt is ongoing in the Watertown area for the second suspect, who is believed to be armed and dangerous. The case is being investigated by local, state and federal authorities working in cooperation.
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad is assessing and removing any potentially explosive devices that may have been thrown on the street in Watertown by the suspects. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

'There were signs of more than just gunshot wounds, said the doctor, who did not give his name.
'A second suspect was able to flee from that car and there is an active search going on at this point in time,' Colonel Timothy Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, told a news conference.
'What we are looking for right now is a suspect consistent with suspect No 2, the white-capped individual who was involved in Monday's bombing of the Boston Marathon,' Alben said.
Police say the two suspects discharged several explosives at police from the vehicle during the pursuit.
According to eyewitness reports, two men believed to be in their early twenties engaged in a furious gun fight with dozens of police on a backstreet of Watertown.
Andrew Kitzenburg spoke to the New York Times about the view he had from his third floor window as he saw two men in jackets shooting at at least 10 police from behind a black Mercedes SUV.
The gun battle was being waged 70 yards apart and Mr. Kitzenburg said that the two men and police were engaged in 'constant gunfire'.
Suddenly a police SUV 'drove towards the shooters' and was fired upon until it was damaged and rolled to the side of the road, crashing into two cars in his driveway.
Dramatically, Mr. Kitzenburg said the two gunmen then threw a large bomb, 'They lit it, still in the middle of the gunfire, and threw it. But it went 20 yards at most.
The unknown device did explode and at that point, one of the men ran towards the gathered police officers and was tackled - it is not clear from Mr. Kitzenburg if he was shot or not.
Then suddenly, the other man returned to his SUV and drove towards police officers and 'put pedal to the metal'.
The car 'went right through the cops, broke right through and continued west.'
Mr Kitzenburg said that the two men had left backpacks by the car and that a police bomb robot was currently dealing with the devices.
Police have told all residents to remain in their homes while they clear the area.
Police screamed at reporters on the scene to turn off phones 'if they want to live' as they hunted for the suspects - fearful that improvised explosives could be remotely detonated.
The shoot-out came hours after the FBI released images and video of the Boston bombing suspects as they launched a hunt for two 'armed and extremely dangerous' men.
The images show them walking in single file toward the finishing line of the race around 13 minutes before the twin detonations.
Hours after the initial photos were made public, investigators released close-up shots this morning of the two suspects that more clearly show the men's faces.
Suspect Number One was wearing a black baseball hat, a dark hooded jacket and khaki pants. Suspect Number Two was wearing a white basketball cap on backwards and a dark hooded sweatshirt.

"It's great to welcome David to Sky," he said. "Sport is at the heart of what we do and both we and David believe in its power to excite, inspire and change lives.
"As a hero and inspiration on and off the field, David is a perfect ambassador to help us get more people involved in sport."

NEWS ---Texas Plant Explosion: Search For Survivors

Up to 15 people are dead and dozens are homeless as police warn of high levels of explosive ammonia gas in the area.

Search for survivors at apartment after Texas fertiliser plant explosion
Rescue teams are searching the rubble of homes for survivors after a massive explosion ripped through a nearby fertiliser plant in Texas.
Up to 15 people are feared to have been killed and more than 160 others were injured in the blast in the small town of West, near Waco.
The Dallas Fire-Rescue department has confirmed one of its firefighters, 52-year-old Captain Kenny Harris, died as he helped fight the initial blaze.
Police have warned of a "very volatile situation" because of ammonium nitrate found at the plant. The chemical compound is commonly used a fertiliser but can also be used in explosives.
Hundreds of worshippers prayed for the victims at a church service on Thursday.
The explosion caused the roof of a school gym to cave in
Firefighters had been tackling a blaze at the factory for about 20 minutes when the explosion rocked the area on Wednesday evening.
Three to four volunteer firefighters are among the missing, said Sergeant William Patrick Swanton.
Capt Harris, who lived in West, was off duty when the fire broke out but decided to help the town's volunteer crew. He was described as a married father of three grown sons.
The blast destroyed as many as 80 houses and reduced a complex of 50 apartments to a "skeleton standing up", according to one official.

It also struck a nearby school and nursing home, where an evacuation saw 133 patients taken out of the building, some in wheelchairs.
The explosion at the West Fertiliser Company could be heard 45 miles away. It sent flames shooting into the night sky and rained burning embers, shrapnel and debris down on shocked and frightened residents.
Sgt Swanton said the number of dead was estimated to be between five and 15, and emergency crews were moving from house to house in a search and rescue operation.
More than half of the 2,700 population of West had been evacuated and people were still being pulled from damaged buildings.
The explosion had a magnitude of 2.1 - equivalent to a minor earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey.

A man filmed the initial fire, and captured the moment of the explosion on camera.
His child is heard shouting: "Dad, I can't hear, let's get out of here. I can't hear anything." The dad says simply: "Oh my god."
Waco Assistant Fire Chief Don Yeager said it was an anhydrous (without water) ammonia explosion.
Anhydrous ammonia is a nitrogen-hydrogen gas widely used as a fertiliser, but it is also a key component of many explosive devices.
Residents in West have been urged to remain indoors because of the threat of new explosions or leaks of ammonia from the plant's ruins.

The town's mayor Tommy Muska, who is part of the team of local volunteer firefighters, compared the blast to a nuclear bomb going off.
In a statement, President Barack Obama offered the prayers of the nation to the people of West.
"A tight-knit community has been shaken, and good, hard-working people have lost their lives," he said.
Texas Governor Rick Perry described "a nightmare scenario for that community," as he announced he was seeking a federal disaster declaration which would make additional funds available.
Debby Marak said she noticed a lot of smoke coming from the area across town near the plant.
She said she drove over to see what was happening, and when she got out of her car two boys ran towards her screaming that officials told them to leave because the plant was going to explode.
Moments later the blast happened.
"It was like being in a tornado," the 58-year-old said. "Stuff was flying everywhere. It blew out my windshield. It was like the whole earth shook."
The cause of the fire remains unknown and it is being treated as a crime scene, which is standard procedure, Sgt Swanton said.
But he added there was no indication the blast was anything other than an industrial accident.
The explosion came on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Waco siege - a deadly confrontation between federal authorities and heavily armed locals.
The Dallas Morning News said that the fertiliser company previously reported to the US Environmental Protection Agency and local public safety officials that there was no risk of fire or explosion at the plant.

NEWS ---Pink Floyd album designer Storm Thorgerson dies R.I.P

torm Thorgerson, whose album cover artwork includes Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, has died aged 69, the band's management has confirmed.
A childhood friend of the founding members of the band, he became their designer-in-chief, fashioning a string of eye-catching creations.
He designed the cover showing a prism spreading a spectrum of colour for The Dark Side Of The Moon.
His credits also include albums by Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel and Muse.
His family released a statement saying he died peacefully on Thursday surrounded by family and friends.
"He had been ill for some time with cancer though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003," it said.
Storm Thorgerson Mr Thorgerson famously designed the cover artwork of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon
"He is survived by his mother Vanji, his son Bill, his wife Barbie Antonis and her two children Adam and Georgia."
Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist Dave Gilmour released a statement in which he said the artworks Thorgerson created for the band had been "an inseparable part of our work".
He said: "We first met in our early teens. We would gather at Sheep's Green, a spot by the river in Cambridge and Storm would always be there holding forth, making the most noise, bursting with ideas and enthusiasm. Nothing has ever really changed.
"He has been a constant force in my life, both at work and in private, a shoulder to cry on and a great friend. I will miss him."
'Simple idea' A statement on the Pink Floyd.com official site said: "We are saddened by the news that long-time Pink Floyd graphic genius, friend and collaborator, Storm Thorgerson, has died.
"Our thoughts are with his family and many friends."
Thorgerson began his career with UK design group Hipgnosis, founded in the late 1960s and his distinctive style made him one of the industry's most recognisable artists.
There was the mournful-looking cow on the front of Atom Heart Mother, the burning businessman on the sleeve of Wish You Were Here, the giant pig flying over Battersea Power Station and the prism spreading a spectrum of colour across The Dark Side Of The Moon.
He told the BBC in 2009: "It's a nice but simple idea. Refracting light through a prism is a common feature in nature, as in a rainbow. I would like to claim it, but unfortunately it's not mine!"
The idea was sparked by Pink Floyd's keyboard player, the late Richard Wright, he explained.
"He said, somewhat provocatively, 'Let's not have one of your photos, we've had your photos before. Can't we have a change? A cool graphic - something smart, tidy, elegant.'"

Seven members of a French family kidnapped by gunmen in northern Cameroon in February have been freed.
Cameroon's Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary told the BBC the Moulin-Fournier family, including four children, were in good condition.

The family arrived at the French embassy with a heavy security escort, the AFP news agency reports.
President Francois Hollande said secret talks had been taking place for the past few weeks to help secure their release, but the country had not paid a ransom, Reuters news agency reports.
"France has not changed its position, which is not to pay ransoms," the agency quotes him as saying at a news conference in Paris.
"I spoke to the father this morning... He told me how happy and relieved he was."
The release of the hostages was announced on national radio in Cameroon on Friday morning.
The statement from the presidency said they had been handed over to Cameroon authorities late on Thursday.

Both the Nigerian and French governments were thanked in the statement, but no further explanation was given about how they were freed.
The French president's office said that Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius had immediately left for Cameroon to greet the family, AFP reported.
Mr Fabius told AFP the French hostages were freed overnight "in an area between Nigeria and Cameroon" and would be flown to France on Saturday.
Prisoner demand The family, who live in Yaounde, where Tanguy Moulin-Fournier worked for the French gas group Suez, had been returning from a holiday in the Waza National Park in the far north of Cameroon when they were kidnapped by gunmen on motorbikes on 19 February.
Mr Moulin-Fournier, his wife Albane and four children, aged between five and 12, had been joined on their vacation by his brother Cyril.
Still from the video alleged to show the French victims The family, kidnapped on 19 February, is thought to have been held in Nigeria
In the YouTube video released about a week after their capture, the militants demanded the release of prisoners in Cameroon and Nigeria.
One of them also criticised President Hollande for sending troops to fight Islamist militants in northern Mali in January.
"Let the French president know that he has launched war against Islam," he said.
The French-led operation in Mali has ousted the Islamist groups, including al-Qaeda's North African branch, from cities and town in the vast desert region they had captured a year ago in the wake of a coup.
Nigeria has contributed troops to a regional African force which has begun deploying to Mali to take over from French troops.
One of the hostages in the video said his captors were "Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad" - the official name for Boko Haram, as the Islamist group is popularly known in Nigeria.
Boko Haram, which began its insurgency following a deadly crackdown on its members in 2009, had previously said it was not involved in hostage taking.
It has usually followed a Nigerian agenda, and says it wants to establish an Islamic state.
During its insurgency at least 2,000 people have been kill in northern and parts of central Nigeria.
Another Islamist group, Ansaru - which was formed in 2012 and is believed to have links to al-Qaeda - is also active in northern Nigeria and has been involved in abducting foreigners.
